Department History

The Department of Primary Education was established in 1960 under the name "Methodology of Primary Education." Over the years, the department was headed by prominent scholars such as M. Ochilov, T. Gafforova, T. Rasulov, Sh. Nurullayeva, and N. Oripova. Due to the optimization of the Department of Social Pedagogy and Preschool Education between 2014 and 2018, the department was renamed as the "Methodology of Preschool and Primary Education." In October 2018, following structural changes at Karshi State University, the department was re-established under the name "Primary Education." Professors Malla Ochilov and Talat Gafforova are distinguished scholars who made a significant contribution to the development of the department. M. Ochilov worked at the department from 1960 to 2010. Throughout his professional career, he made a tremendous contribution to the education of young people as highly qualified specialists and well-rounded individuals. He published more than one hundred scientific articles, brochures, and textbooks. Under his supervision, dozens of candidates of sciences were trained, and he served as a scientific advisor for many doctoral dissertations. He is the author of the textbook "Pedagogy of Higher Education." In addition, he published many educational manuals, including "New Pedagogical Technologies" and "Ethics of a Teacher." He was the first to translate the famous work of the great pedagogue John Amos Comenius, "The Great Didactic," into Uzbek. Professor M. Ochilov’s textbook "Pedagogy of Higher Education" remains one of the main resources for master’s degree students to this day. From 2002 to 2009, the department was headed by Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Talat Gafforova. Under her leadership, the scientific potential of the department increased significantly. She co-authored textbooks such as "Alphabet" and "Reading" for primary school students. Since 2014, the department has been headed by Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Rizamat Davronovich Shadiyev. Under his leadership, significant work has been carried out to strengthen the scientific capacity of the Primary Education Department. Over the past five years, the department has repeatedly ranked first among university departments. Wherever Professor Rizamat Davronovich Shadiyev has worked and whatever position he has held, he has always demonstrated his dedication to his field through honest work, profound knowledge, and great potential, actively contributing to the implementation of state policy in the fields of science, education, and the spiritual development of youth. In recognition of his scientific achievements, he was awarded the "Shukhrat" (Glory) Medal by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated September 28, 2018.
Academic Staff and Scientific Potential of the Department The department employs 14 faculty members. Among them: 2 are Doctors of Pedagogical Sciences, Professors; 1 is a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Pedagogical Sciences, Professor; 9 are Doctors of Philosophy (PhD) in Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professors; and 2 are Senior Lecturers. Currently, the academic and scientific capacity of the department is 86%. A scientific-methodological seminar entitled “Modernized Educational Technologies” operates continuously within the department. In addition, a specialized Academic Council — PhD.03/04.06.2020.Ped.70.02 — functions under the department for the following specialties: 13.00.01 — Theory of Pedagogy and History of Pedagogical Thought, and 13.00.02 — Theory and Methodology of Education and Upbringing. Within this council, a number of doctoral candidates and independent researchers have successfully defended their dissertations and obtained the academic degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Pedagogical Sciences. Over the past two years, the department’s faculty members have published 10 textbooks and 9 teaching manuals, all certified and integrated into the educational process. As a result of scientific research activities, 3 monographs were published during the 2024–2025 academic year. Scientific articles authored by gifted students of the department are regularly published in academic journals. At the international scientific-practical conference organized by the department, titled “The Integrity and Continuity of Innovation and Integration Processes in Education: Challenges and Solutions,” the articles by outstanding students F. Shoimova, A. Naimova, and M. Khushvakhtova were recognized as the best among those in the field of pedagogy. Primary Education students S. Qurbonova and A. Sharkova were awarded the prestigious Navoi State Scholarship under the mentorship of Professor Sh. Nurullayeva and Associate Professor M. Kazakova — both faculty members of the department. A “Gifted Students Group” has been established under the department, comprising the most talented, active, and initiative-driven students of the program. The subjects taught at the department are closely connected with the primary education process in regional educational institutions and general secondary schools. During the organization of practical classes and the conduct of internships, as well as the selection of topics for final qualifying papers, particular attention is given to current issues in preschool and general secondary education systems. Furthermore, the educational process is being actively enriched with the latest scientific achievements, technological innovations in education, and international best practices. Student clubs such as “Fun Mathematics” and “Skilled Hands” have been established under the department. These clubs, led by B. Berdiev and A. Umirov, have been actively working with gifted students to this day.
Cooperation of the Department with International and National Higher Educational and Research Institutions Based on the agreement signed on April 20, 2018, between Karshi State University and Kalmyk State University named after B.B. Gorodovikov, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Zinaida Ochirovna Kekeyeva, in accordance with the Rector’s Order No. 269-X dated April 11, 2025, delivered 12 hours of lectures and seminar-training sessions on the subject "Pedagogy of Primary Education" for 4th-year students majoring in Primary Education. According to the relevant order of the university rector, Shahlo Uktamovna Nurillayeva completed a professional internship from October 5 to October 16, 2024, upon the invitation of the Institute for Turkish Culture Studies and Gazi University (Republic of Turkey).
